F1: Silverstone makes changes to bring fans closer to F1 action

Silverstone will be making some key modifications to a key general viewing location to bring fans closer to the action for the British Grand Prix.

The spectator fan zone at the high-speed Wellington Straight will be moved almost 50 feet closer to the track, with a total of 750 feet being brought forward to enable fans to see the cars power down the straight into Brooklands and Luffield.

These developments have been made possible due to the use of the unique debris fences developed by Swiss company Geobrugg.

Lee Howkins, Circuit Manager at Silverstone, said: “It’s a fully homologated system with the FIA and FIM.

“With the speed of the straight and the new safety aspects of Formula 1, it was the right time to move to the Geobrugg system.

“We want to make sure we’re giving the fans the best experience and the best views.”

Jochen Braunwarth, Geobrugg’s Director of Motorsport Solutions, added: “We’re excited to be part of the redevelopment plans at Silverstone.
