F1: Hamilton lost 7 lbs. trying to beat Verstappen in Austin

Lewis Hamilton has revealed he lost seven pounds during the United States Grand Prix. The 37-year-old was involved in an epic battle with Max Verstappen to the finish line and the veteran racer fought to the limit in trying to fend off the Red Bull star.

The battle looks to have taken its toll on Hamilton inside the cockpit. The seven-time world champion, who was a guest on Jimmy Kimmel Live this week, was asked a variety of questions, ranging from his F1 career to his failed attempt to be included in a Tom Cruise film.

When asked about how demanding it is to be a racing driver, Hamilton revealed that he lost a huge amount of weight in the space of two hours during Sunday’s race at the Circuit of the Americas.

“We just had the race on Sunday and I lost seven pounds,” Hamilton said on the show, to which Kimmel repeated in awe: “You lost seven pounds in a race?!” and the Briton confirmed he had due to the grueling physical demands placed upon him

Hamilton was leading the race from lap 34 after a slow 11-second pit stop for Verstappen put him back out on the track in sixth behind Sebastian Vettel. However, the Dutchman fought his way back to second place, with only Hamilton standing in his way of victory.

The Mercedes driver, who hasn’t won a race in 2022, did everything within his power to fend off the more talented Verstappen, but the Dutchman hunted him down and passed him six laps from the end before going on to clinch his 13th victory of the season.
