Supercars: Huge fan numbers for Repco Bathurst 1000

Supercars has thanked its fans who braved some of the worst conditions ever faced at Mount Panorama, to support this year’s Repco Bathurst 1000.

A crowd of 195,578 attended this year’s event, the first since covid restrictions were placed on the 2020 and 2021 events.

Despite the heavy rain, campers filled over 7000 campsites on the famous mountain over race week to watch one final Bathurst battle between Holden and Ford.

The total attendance figure compares to the 2019 event which saw 201,975 attend Mount Panorama and the 2018 event, the second highest all-time, which brought in 206,755.

The record remains 207,205, which was set in 2012.

The huge crowd attendance follows the big TV ratings Sunday’s Great Race delivered for Foxtel and the Seven Network along with dedicated streaming services: Kayo, Foxtel NOW, Foxtel GO and 7plus.

Today, Foxtel has announced the 2022 Repco Bathurst 1000 has broken records for Foxtel Group with more than 62.5 million minutes streamed during The Great Race – the highest of any Supercars event in history.

The event was the second-highest performing Supercars race of all time across the Foxtel Group with an average audience of 524,000 tuning in across Foxtel and streaming platforms Kayo Sports, Foxtel NOW and Foxtel GO – up 9% on 2021.

Kayo Sports saw more than 103.7 million streamed hours throughout Bathurst week with dedicated programming available live and On Demand on Fox Sports from October 3-10.

Fox Sports Executive Director Steve Crawley said: “Bathurst continues to be a race that revs up fans right around the country.

“With Jessica Yates, six-time Bathurst champion Mark Skaife and Neil Crompton heading world-class coverage it’s always a highlight of the year and just keeps getting better.

“Great to see another bumper Bathurst for the home of Motorsport in Australia.”

Seven’s coverage of the great race averaged 1.36 million total viewers nationally, including 68,000 on 7plus.

The action from Mount Panorama dominated its time slot in total people, 25 to 54s and 16 to 39s, with the Race average broadcast audience up 6% on 2021 in total people.

The Podium event averaged 1.89 million viewers, including 94,000 on 7plus, and was up 38% on 2021.

On 7plus, more than 43.6 million minutes of the race were streamed, up 78% on 2021.

Online, the Supercars website and social media numbers were equally impressive, with huge increases on 2021.

  • Supercars.com delivered a massive 2.9 million page views over the 4-day event, an increase of 18% compared to 2021 and only 3% shy of the 2019 record.
  • The website also experienced a 20 per cent increase in new users for 2022 compared to 2021
  • The Supercars App was used by over 88K people over the 4-day event delivering over 1.8 million screen views.
