Fans as far as the eye can see at the 2022 Italian GP at Monza

F1: Monza had so many fans it struggled to handle the crowds

Under Liberty Media’s rein, F1 is bursting at the seams.

The Italian GP at Monza drew 336,000 for the three-day weekend and the experience for race fans was not the best.

There were numerous complaints about lengthy queues to get into the circuit and a lack of bathroom and food.

The general admissions areas were so overcrowded, fans struggled to see the cars.

Fans as far as the eye can see. And it was the same behind the podium – fans as far as the eye could see. This is not IndyCar, that’s for sure, where maybe 10,000 thousand fans showed up for their big season finale at Laguna Seca on the same day.

Monza organizers vowed to look into the matter to try to work out what can be done better in 2023.

In a social media post on its official Twitter account, Monza said: “Autodromo Nazionale Monza expresses its regret for the inconvenience of those who, among the many fans who flocked to the last Italian GP, encountered some inconveniences.

“The structure and its people put their best efforts to create an event that surpassed all previous attendance records.

“For Autodromo Nazionale Monza, the experience of the fans is a priority aspect, and for this reason, a rigorous verification has been started, also with the partners, to ascertain and investigate the origin of any critical issues and take the consequent measures so that this does not happen again in the future.”
