Indy Lights: Chadwick to test Lights car for Andretti Autosport
Knowing she will likely never get a shot at being a F1 driver given they are the very best in the world, W-Series driver Jamie Chadwick will test an Indy Lights car for Andretti Autosport on Sept 21st at Sebring.
She currently leads the W Series drivers’ standings by 75 points from Alice Powell with four races remaining. Speaking at the Hungarian Grand Prix, Chadwick said “any feeder series is the goal” for next season and that Indy Lights was among her options for 2023.
She appears to be the most talented woman currently racing in the all-women W Series. She has dominated it since its inception in 2019, winning both drivers’ titles, and has scored 18 podium finishes in 20 race starts, 11 of which were wins.
It takes less money to buy an Indy Lights seat than an F3 or F2 seat and with Indy Lights there is always the opportunity to then buy an IndyCar ride even if you do not win the Lights championship, but it certainly helps.
The cost of entry to buy an IndyCar ride is a fraction of what it takes to buy a seat at the back of the F1 grid. And if she wins the Indy Lights title, and shows some real talent vs. the men, she will have a real shot at a decent IndyCar ride. Whereas in Europe, dominating in W Series against all-woman does not showcase whether you can beat the men or not.
Let’s see. Andretti provides the best Indy Lights Car. It could be her chance to shine.
