F1: Latifi tops soaking wet final practice for Hungarian GP
Sebastian Vettel and Charles Leclerc spun on the wet Hungaroring track Saturday morning for final practice ahead of qualifying, but back marker Nicholas Latifi, snuck in a quick lap late in the session on a slightly drying track to top all drivers.
Latifi’s one claim to fame in F1 came at the expense of Charles Leclerc who was fastest most of the session.
Does that make Latifi favorite for pole? Maybe not – but the Canadian is enjoying the moment. He is told he has finished P1 and remarks “I did? Wonder if that clapping was for me.”
Latifi’s time of 1m41.480s was 0.661s faster than Leclerc and 0.901s faster than Alex Albon.
Max Verstappen and George Russell rounded out the top-5.
It started wet, it ended wet and in between there was all sorts of chaos. A spin for Gasly, great saves from Leclerc and Alonso, and a fair few teams struggling for tire warm up.
