Rumor: Andretti Autosport looking for ride-buyer with bigger check for the #29

According to Racer, Michael Andretti has put the word out that the #29 car, currently driven by rookie Devlin DeFrancesco, is up for grabs to the ride-buyer with the biggest check for 2023.

DeFrancesco has not exactly set the world on fire in his rookie year, but how much is that him, given the fact the entire Andretti Autosport team has not performed well in 2022?

The team has only one win to their credit (Colton Herta) and their drivers sit in the standings as follows:

8th Colton Herta
10th Alexander Rossi
14th Romain Grosjean
23rd Devlin DeFrancesco

Not exactly setting the world on fire.

The question has to be asked whether Andretti Autosport is spread too thin, being involved in so many series?

We already know that three of Andretti’s drivers are locked in for next year – Herta, Grosjean and Kyle Kirkwood.

Andretti has some Indy Lights drivers who may be able to bring a large check, and there are always some F2 drivers eyeing IndyCar if they believe they have run out of avenues to make it into F1 – the top echelon of world motorsports.

Will DeFrancesco be able to hang onto his seat in the #29, or does he even want to given the team’s performance?

It will be interesting to see how it plays out as the Silly Season is well underway.
