F1: Sainz leads Ferrari 1-2 in final Austrian GP practice
Carlos Sainz Jr. turned a lap of 1m08.610s to top the final practice for the Austrian GP in his #55 Ferrari at the Red Bull Ring.
Charles Leclerc was 2nd quick in the #16 Ferrari, just 0.05s behind
Polesitter Max Verstappen was third quick in his #1 Red Bull, 0.168s behind Sainz.
Alpine teammates Fernando Alonso and Esteban Ocon rounded out the top-5.
Lewis Hamilton remained in the garage until the final 13 minutes as his Mercedes mechanics prepared his backup car after he wadded up his primary car in qualifying Friday.
Hamilton did only a couple of laps on the soft tire before immediately going into the pit lane and switching to a set of some used medium tires.
It is worth remembering that while these times are interesting, today is all about long run pace, as the teams seek to get their cars in the best position for the Sprint and the race tomorrow. They were also lapping about three seconds off their qualifying pace of yesterday.
