F1: Alonso tops very wet final practice in Montreal

Alpine’s Fernando Alonso topped a very wet final practice for the Canadian GP in Montreal with a lap of 1m33.836s to just nip Pierre Gasly and Sebastian Vettel.

Gasly was 0.053s behind in his Alpha Tauri and Vettel 0.055s behind in his Aston Martin.

All drivers were on rain tires, but some drivers tried out the intermediates with mixed results.

Esteban Ocon was 4th in the 2nd Alpine, 0.167s behind while Daniel Ricciardo rounded out the top-5 for McLaren.

Many drivers spun off onto the grass in the slippery condition, including Max Verstappen on the Intermediates.

Right, hard to assess that one with some drivers pushing, some not fancying it and some staying mostly in the garage. They won’t have that option later on, with qualifying set to get under way at 4:00 pm local time.

And with under two hours to go until qualifying, who is going to come out on top later on? It’s completely open today, with plenty of drivers fancying a chance at a famous result today.
