IndyCar: Saturday Morning Update from the GMR Grand Prix

Good morning on race day in Indianapolis for the GMR Grand Prix.  It is hard to believe that today might not be the best race day weather-wise.   The sun is out with no clouds in the sky this morning. The chance of a thunderstorm is forecasted around  1 pm.  Gusty winds and hail are included in the dreary forecast.

Warm-up for the NTT INDYCAR Series is at 10:30 am EDT.  We should be dry at this time but treaded Firestone tires might be needed for the race scheduled to start at 3:20 pm.

I would not be surprised if Will Power, the Team Penske driver of the no 12 Verizon sponsored entry, leads this race from start to finish in dry conditions.  Some rain could change that but  the Aussie  driver has won the pole on this road course six times.  And if the pole-sitter wins, it will be his sixth victory here and Team Chevy’s 100th NTT INDYCAR Series win since 2012.

Digital Marshal Panels

AR1 was able to get some pictures of the new  EM Motorsport. electronic marshaling system that is being used for the first time on this road course.   The picture shows the yellow flag displayed on the starter stand and the new visual system under the stand shows a bright yellow light.

This photo is when the track was red-flagged during a practice session.  The panel flashes the color so it is hard to photograph the  panel as a solid color.  This was the only panel that I could see from the pit lane.

Stay tuned for updated reports today.
