F1: Lewis Hamilton not happy always getting beat by his teammate
So far this season, George Russell has beaten Lewis Hamilton more times than not. Hamilton is not used to being beaten by a teammate, but in Russell, he has more than met his match.
Hamilton won 7 championships with a superior car and an inferior teammate.
So he looked like a hero.
Now the tables are turned and he is not happy whatsoever.
His reputation for being the best is getting beaten by Russell and a destroyed reputation means less sponsor endorsements.
We all know that the W13 Mercedes is no match for the Ferraris at the moment, but that does not matter when ever driver in F1 is compared first and foremost against their teammate.
And Hamilton is losing for the first time in his career, and he is one unhappy camper.
Russell currently sits second in the World Championship standings, nine points ahead of fifth-placed Hamilton.
After qualifying in Imola Friday, the overrated Briton climbed out of the car and stopped to talk to team principal Wolff as he walked past him. The cameras caught a seemingly tense exchange between the duo, with the Austrian talking earnestly to the driver.
Asked about the incident in his post-qualifying interview, Hamilton said: “That’s all internal stuff, so I won’t share that. But we’ll just keep working. It is what it is, it’s kind of….(shrugs). We’ll just keep working hard. Each weekend’s a rescue.”
“It wasn’t a great session. Naturally it’s disappointing.
“You come here with optimism and everyone’s working really hard at the factory and then things don’t come together, it’s disappointing.
“I think we under-performed as a team today. There are things we should have done that we didn’t do and anyways…we’ll work as hard as we can to move up in the sprint race.
“It will be a difficult race but hopefully tomorrow will be better weather-wise and who knows, maybe we can work our way forwards.”
