IMSA: God giveth, then God taketh away
God (IMSA) gave the Corvette team a BOP adjustment in their favor ahead of the 12 Hours of Sebring last month, and the Corvette team won the GTD Pro category.
What God giveth, he sometimes taketh away.
The Chevrolet Corvette C8.R GTD and BMW M4 GT3 are among the GTD spec cars hit with Balance of Performance adjustments ahead of next weekend’s Acura Grand Prix of Long Beach.
Confirmed in the latest technical bulletin from IMSA, the Mobil 1 Twelve Hours of Sebring GTD Pro class-winning Corvette has been given 22lbs of additional weight, a 0.4 mm smaller air restrictor — equating to an 8.3 horsepower decrease — as well as a 4 liter reduction in fuel capacity.
BMW will have a 17-horsepower reduction but 44lb reduced minimum weight and 8-liter fuel capacity reduction to coincide with the power cut.
Other changes in GTD Pro and GTD include a 2 mm larger air restrictor for the Porsche 911 GT3 R, which is roughly a 5 horsepower increase, while the Acura NSX GT3 Evo22 gets a turbo boost in the range of 8.3 horsepower.
Additionally, the McLaren 720S GT3 has been given a 33 lb reduction in minimum weight.
