IndyCar: Ferrucci to Replace Jack Harvey who is not cleared to race today

This has just been issued by INDYCAR

Per INDYCAR protocol, all drivers wear accelerometers that measure g-forces exhibited during an incident. These get evaluated fully, after each incident, and if the result of the g-forces surpasses the minimum threshold, drivers must be re-evaluated prior to returning to competition. Following the protocol, the driver of the No. 45, Jack Harvey, was re-evaluated this morning and was not cleared for racing. Harvey is working closely with the INDYCAR medical team regarding the next steps.

These accelerometers are small sensors that measure changes in linear force in three different directions: front to back, side to side, and up and down. The accelerometers put out a measurable voltage, which changes from vibration or movement through the car’s direction and velocity. Using the amplitude of the voltage in the three directions, a formula is used to calculate the total G forces to the head.
