IndyCar: Update to TMS Schedule
A special session to work Firestone rubber into the second lane at Texas Motor Speedway has been confirmed by the NTT INDYCAR Series for this afternoon. As reported by Racer.com, the final practice session that was scheduled from 4-5 pm will be moved to 4:45-5:45 pm.
The series will be sending out seven drivers at 4-4:30 pm that will be using sets of Firestone tires from the 2021 races. Ed Carpenter, Helio Castroneves, Pato O’Ward, Will Power, Graham Rahal, Felix Rosenqvist and Takuma Sato will gradually work up to speed in the corners and lay rubber down on the top of the PJ1 remnants.
IndyCar has already tried scraping the PJ1 material off the second lane surface with steel mesh, but the unequal grip is still found between the clean bottom lane and the dark upper lanes.
This plan should make for better racing tomorrow by allowing the drivers to use the second lane for passing.
