WEC: Anthony Davidson to join commentary team in 2022
Former FIA World Endurance Drivers’ Champion Anthony Davidson has been confirmed to join the official WEC TV commentary team for the 2022 season.
After a hugely successful career in motorsport spanning more than two decades including 13 WEC victories, Davidson officially announced his retirement from competitive racing at the WEC season-closer in Bahrain last November.
Davidson also has 24 Formula 1 starts under his belt but it’s endurance racing where the Englishman has really shone, driving for the likes of Toyota and securing the 2014 drivers’ title alongside Sebastien Buemi. Davidson then went on to compete in LMP2 for DragonSpeed USA, before three seasons with successful British outfit JOTA.
Away from the WEC paddock, Davidson has been a highly respected analyst for Sky Sports’ F1 coverage for nearly ten years and also holds a development and simulator role with the Mercedes F1 operation.
Davidson will join experienced duo Martin Haven and Graham Goodwin in the WEC TV team this year, replacing fellow World Endurance Champion Allan McNish in the commentary booth who will focus on other commitments. Louise Beckett will assist the broadcast team during race weekends with her expert insights from the pitlane.
Davidson commented: “I’m thrilled to be joining the commentary team this season to cover the FIA World Endurance Championship. To have the opportunity to be involved in the series that I’ve been a part of since 2012, now from behind the microphone, fills me with excitement and I’m really looking forward to getting started.”
The 2022 WEC season will get underway in just over one month’s time with the official pre-season test, otherwise known as The Prologue, in Sebring (12-13 March) before the season-opening 1000 Miles of Sebring (16-18 March). The six-round championship will then return to Europe for three races at Spa-Francorchamps, Le Mans and Monza before heading to Fuji in Japan and then ending the year in Bahrain.
