Mika Häkkinen’s 33-year old F1 Car Is Still Faster Than Current IndyCar
At the Velocity Invitational historic racing weekend, Pato O’Ward, the Arrow McLaren driver who finished this year’s IndyCar championship in third, was slotted behind the wheel of something much older F1 car – Mika Hakkinen’s 1998 F1 drivers’ and constructors’ title-winning MP4-13A with a screaming 3.0-liter Mercedes-Benz V10.
O’Ward turned laps faster in the 33-year old F1 car than what he qualified this year in his 2021 IndyCar 1m10.3s vs 1m11.2s….and the F1 ca ran an old engine (museum ready) in it and the chassis and engine were not in qualifying trim.
To say today’s current IndyCar is slower than a relic F1 car is an embarrassment to IndyCar and all it represents.
