NASCAR to run one Cup Series race at MIS for second straight year

For the third year in a row, NASCAR will race in Michigan’s Irish Hills on a single weekend.

Michigan International Speedway in Brooklyn will host the FireKeepers Casino 400 on Aug. 7, 2022. It’ll be the 54th straight year with a Cup Series race at the track, but the third since 1974 with just one race weekend, and the second with only one Cup Series race.

From 1974-2019, MIS hosted a top-level NASCAR race in June and August. But the coronavirus pandemic forced a compression of the schedule in 2020, with NASCAR running the FireKeepers Casino 400 the Consumers Energy 400 on back-to-back days  on Aug. 8-9. This year, the two-mile track hosted just one race, the FireKeepers Casino 400 on Aug. 22.

The August 2022 race weekend will also feature races from NASCAR’s lower divisions.
