IndyCar: Newgarden leads Penske 1-2 in Bommarito 500 practice

Team Penske is always strong here at World Wide Technology Raceway (Gateway) and practice for tonight’s Bommarito 500 was no difference as Josef Newgarden and Scott McLaughlin ran 1-2 in afternoon practice for Team Penske.

Newgarden’s lap of 25.1715s was just 0.1565s faster than McLaughlin’s lap in the identical car.

Ryan Hunter-Reay was third quick for Andretti Autosport.

Graham Rahal and Scott Dixon rounded out the top-5.

This track is hard to pass on, so whoever qualifies up front later this afternoon will likely still be leading the parade at the finish. Right now, that appears like it will be Josef Newgarden.
