City of Cape Town to spend $3 million on road upgrades for Formula E race event

The City of Cape Town plans to spend $3 million on road upgrades for the Green Point precinct for the upcoming Formula E race event around the Cape Town Stadium. $3 million may not sound like a lot but in South Africa $3 million goes a long way

Mayor Dan Plato has called on council to support the city’s leg of the upcoming Formula E World Championship.

The FIA recently announced Cape Town as a new host city for its provisional Formula E race calendar for the 2021/2022 season.

Plato says the event will also include local communities and schools to educate them about electric cars, how they can contribute to a sustainable future of mobility and the impact of inner-city air pollution.

“We need to look at post-COVID-19, we need to look at what to do next. I am very happy with the fact that we can now continue with pre-planning. It’s good for the tourism sector of the city it give hope to business,” says Cape Town Mayor Dan Plato.
