F1: British GP TV Rating continues ESPN hot streak
Sunday’s Formula 1 British Grand Prix on ESPN attracted an average audience of 1.029 million viewers, making it the second race of 2021 to average more than 1 million viewers.
- Viewership was the second-largest of the season for F1 (highest was French Grand Prix at 1.056 million).
- The race had the third-largest audience on record for F1 on cable in the U.S.
- Audience peaked between 11:45 a.m. – noon ET with 1.2 million viewers, during which time Lewis Hamilton made the winning pass.
- The audience was the fourth most-viewed British Grand Prix on record and the largest cable audience on record for the event.
- F1 races on ESPN networks are averaging 944K viewers – up 55 percent over the full season of 2020 (608K) and 40 percent over the full season of 2019 (672K).
- Compared to first 10 races of the season, the 2021 F1 average is up 43 percent over 2020 (660K) and up 39 percent over 2019 (678K)
- ESPN2’s telecast of the debut of F1’s new Sprint Qualifying on Saturday averaged 529K viewers. The Friday qualifying session on ESPN2 averaged 345K viewers.
