IndyCar Rumor: Who will fill the third Arrow McLaren seat in 2022?

With Arrow McLaren SP IndyCar team looking to expand to three cars in 2022, there is speculation as to who might fill the seat. Whoever does fill it, the ride will have to be fully funded and will require the driver to at least bring partial funding.

Let’s look at some possible options:

Driver Comments
Ryan Hunter-Reay Given his years of experience, and the fact he is just 40, Hunter-Reay is still at the top of his game and can be the veteran driver Arrow McLaren needs.  He is known as a driver that drives the engineering forward, however, he can only do that to the extent the team has the engineering resources and budget and is willing to apply them.
Oliver Askew Has some history with the team, but brings nowhere near the backing RHR could bring
Romain Grosjean Proven he is one of the best IndyCar drivers on the grid.  A real racer, something Arrow McLaren wants. Is the former Haas F1 driver ready to run IndyCars full-time, including the oval races? Has a little money.
Kevin Magnussen Itching to move up to IndyCars, looking for the right opportunity. The former F1 driver is fast and itching to move up from sports cars. Does he have any backing here in the USA?
Daniel Ricciardo The current F1 driver with McLaren is not happy with his current situation with the McLaren F1 team, and it’s favoring of Lando Norris. Riccardo has expressed some interest in IndyCar in the past
Any number of F2 or F1 reserve drivers Every year a European driver gets tired of the roadblocks to get a decent F1 seat and turn toward IndyCar
