F1: Verstappen over Gasly in 1st Styrian GP practice
Red Bull Honda driver Max Verstappen turned a lap of 1m05.910s to top opening practice for the Styrian GP at the Red Bull Ring.
Pierre Gasly finished 0.256s behind in 2nd in the AlphaTauri, the top-2 runners using Honda power.
Lewis Hamilton was 3rd for Mercedes, 0.422s behind Verstappen, closely followed by his Mercedes teammate Valtteri Bottas is 4th.
Rookie Yuki Tsunoda rounded out the top-5 in the 2nd AlphaTauri, an excellent result for the Japanese rookie – just 0.487s off the pace.
The good news for the teams is that every car managed a good number of laps, although it wasn’t a session without incident. Kubica, Carlos Sainz Jr. and Sergio Perez all spun on the green track, but managed to keep out of the barriers – in Kubica’s case, that was much to the relief of Raikkonen watching on.
