Andretti Autosport to Make LMP3 Switch
A mid-season change up is in store for the Andretti Autosport LMP3 team at the Acura Sports Car Challenge at Mid-Ohio on May 16. The team announced today that driver Jarett Andretti will pilot the No. 36 Gallant Ligier JS P 320 in the WeatherTech Sportscar Championship for the remainder of 2021. Joining Andretti as co-driver for the Mid Ohio race will be 2021 LMP3 Rolex 24 winner and 2019 Indy Lights champion driver Oliver Askew.
Chairman & CEO of Andretti Autosport, Michael Andretti, is optimistic about the teams new direction and continued growth. “We’re really proud of what Jarett and our LMP3 team has accomplished so far in the Prototype Challenge, and are looking forward to this next step into full WeatherTech Sportscar competition. Continued sportscar growth has always been on the radar for us at Andretti Autosport and this helps to set things in the right direction. I think Jarett and Oliver will make a great pairing for Mid-Ohio for our first official outing.”
With his first season of IMSA Prototype Challenge racing already underway, third-generation driver and co-founder of Andretti Motorsports, Jarett Andretti, is looking forward to the new level of competition along with his team. “This is an exciting time for our team and partners. From the start of the season our goal was always to compete in the WeatherTech races and we are excited to make the switch now and are excited to get started at Mid Ohio with Oliver,” said Andretti.
The Andretti Autosport No. 36 Ligier JS P320 continues in partnership with Gallant, Window World, MI Windows and Doors, Schaeffer’s Oil, Superior Auto, Indy Truck and Auto Repair and Unite Health Share Ministries.
The newly focused Andretti Autosport LMP3 team will first compete in the Acura Sports Car Challenge at Mid-Ohio at the Mid-Ohio SportsCar Course in Lexington, OH on May 16. The race will be broadcast live on NBC Sports Gold Trackpass.
