Button’s McLaren team enters 2021 DTM

Jenson Team Rocket RJN, a team partly owned by Jenson Button, will join the DTM series for the 2021 season.

The team spent 2020 competing in the British GT Championship with a McLaren 720S GT3.

“I’ve always loved DTM and it’s exciting to see the series evolve into this new chapter with GT3,” Button said.

“I’ve known Gerhard Berger for a long time and I’m sure he will ensure they put on a great show!

“We are all working behind the scenes to make this DTM plan come together and I’m pleased to be able to expand our plans with McLaren.”

The opportunity has come about as a result of the series taking the decision to allow GT3-class machinery to enter following Audi’s shock withdrawal.

Chris Buncombe, a friend of Button and fellow co-owner of the team, says that participating in the series with McLaren fulfills their goals.

“When we set out on this journey as a team, it has always been our ambition to evolve and grow, competing in a number of different championships while working closely with a manufacturer,” he said.

“When this DTM opportunity was presented to us it felt like a great fit and I look forward to seeing how everything develops with the plans around this project.”
