Kia, Hyundai Recall 600,000 Vehicles For Fire Risk
- Hyundai and Kia are both recommending that owners of vehicles affected by this recall park the vehicles outside until they can be seen by dealers.
Kia and Hyundai are recalling more than 600,000 vehicles for a fire risk. According to NHTSA, brake fluid may leak into the Hydraulic Electronic Control Unit, which could cause an electrical short and a fire.
The recall includes 283,803 Kia Optima sedans, model years 2013-15, 156,567 Kia Sorento crossovers, ’14-’15 and 151,205 Hyundai Santa Fe Sport crossovers from 2013-15. The recall also includes 52,000 Santa Fe Sports from Canada.
NHTSA says there are no known crashes or injuries related to the recall.
Owners of these models of Kia or Hyundai vehicles can check the NHTSA recalls website to find out if their vehicle is affected. Kia owners will be notified by the automakers starting on October 15, while Hyundai owners will get their letters starting a week later, and dealers will replace hydraulic electronic control units found to be faulty at no charge.
