BMW eyeing NASCAR Cup Series? (Update)
This rumor is downgraded to ‘false’ today. BMW has confirmed to The Drive that the social media post that set off this speculation bomb was merely a joke.
“Just a humorous tweet. No hidden meaning in this case,” commented Oleg Satanovsky, BMW Product and Technology Spokesperson.

In a very strange tweet Thursday from BMW USA, could the German brand be headed to NASCAR.?
“Describe NASCAR racing in three words or less.” was asked.
BMW USA, the brand’s official Twitter account said: “Better with BMW.”

BMW builds cars in South Carolina, a plant that opened in 1994 and is home to some of the brand’s most popular models. It’s just about an hour from Charlotte, home to most of NASCAR’s teams, i.e. the heart of NASCAR country.
What would they run in the series? The M8 (above) is an all-wheel drive, twin-turbo DOHC V8. It has nothing in common with rear-drive, four-speed, cam-in-block NASCAR Cup Series cars? But that didn’t stop Toyota.
