Toyota to enter Euro F3 series

UPDATE This rumor is downgraded to 'false' today. The DAMS team of Jean-Paul Driot has decided to not enter the Euro F3 Series. The French team confirmed that they had talks with Tom's Toyota engines used in the Japanese F3 championship, but the cost was too high and DAMS decided to abort the project.

09/30/08 Toyota could be an additional engine supplier to the F3 Euroseries from next season onwards, making it three manufacturers in this championship. The other engine suppliers are Mercedes-Benz and Volkswagen.

Toyota is in talks with F3 Euroseries regular team SG Formula from Stephane Guerin, who are already running Henkie Waldschmidt, a TDP (Toyota Driver Program) driver in this years F3 Euroseries, and with DAMS (owned by Jean-Paul Driot). DAMS would then be a new outfit to the F3 Euroseries next year. This year they ran teams in GP2 (with TDP driver Kamui Kobayashi) and A1GP (France and South-Africa).

Toyota has been very dominant in this years domestic Japanese F3 series, Dutchman Carlo van Dam clinching the title ten days ago. They were already very successful in last years blue ribbon event, the international Macau F3 race. Englishman Oliver Jarvis, last years Japanese F3 champion, ran away from the rest of the field to victory in the 2007 Macau race in his Tom's Toyota Dallara, leaving the other engine manufacturers behind.
