IRL welcomes American enemy
UPDATE Another reader writes, There seems to be an assumption in the racing media that all racing fans are from the right side of the political spectrum. Well, I am not, and I'm sure that many other fans are not. I don't give a damn that Milka Duno is from Venezuela. I agree with some of what Chavez says about George Bush. If more people in our own country had been critical of the Bush Administration, we wouldn't have a steady stream of body bags coming home from Iraq. I am a staunch opponent of Tony George. He ruined open-wheel racing in this country. That's what he did wrong. But letting someone from whatever country race here is not wrong. I frankly think that AutoRacing1.com should steer clear of non-racing politics. But in any event, all racing fans do not share the right-wing xenophobic views of this reader. Milka Duno might not be a great driver (we shall see), but where she is from is fine with me. If your website is going to give space to one political view, then be fair and post this too. 04/29/07 A reader writes, Dear AutoRacing1.com, I have to wonder why no one has written anything about CITGO as Duno's sponsor. Isn't the owner one of America's enemies? How can they allow this to happen without writing a word? President Hugo Chavez has made many deleterious statements about and against America. And on top of it the IRL now has three women, all getting more media attention than the men that beat them easily on the track week in and week out. Face it — they are inferior and belong in a girls league, which proves that the IRL is not a sport, but a hyped-up for all the wrong reasons show. Craig Smith, Indianapolis
