Leilani Münter to try Indy Pro Series

Up and coming stock car driver Leilani Münter has decided to kick off her fenders to try out some open wheel racing. After attending the Indy Pro Series open test at Indianapolis Motor Speedway on April 27 as a guest, Münter will be testing an Indy Pro Series car in preparation to enter the Indianapolis Freedom 100 at Indianapolis Motor Speedway on Friday, May 25 during the Indy 500 weekend. The race will air live on ESPN2.

The move to open wheel cars was somewhat unexpected as Münter had planned on moving into the ARCA Re/Max Series this season, a stepping stone to NASCAR. She attended the ARCA test in Daytona in December and was 24th quick of 59 racecars with a top speed of 177.644 mph.

"Obviously my career has been focused entirely on stock cars," said Münter, "but the opportunity to try open wheel came about and I am excited to be a part of the Indy Pro Series. I know I have a lot to learn about these open wheel cars, but I'm ready and anxious to learn."

Münter had an unexpected treat while attending the Indy Pro Series test at Indianapolis when she took her first laps around Indianapolis Motor Speedway in the passenger seat with four time Indy 500 Champion Rick Mears behind the wheel.

"What an honor to ride with Rick Mears on my first lap around the Brickyard," said a smiling Münter, "I am looking forward to the opportunity to use all the expert advice he offered myself and the other Indy Pro drivers when I come back in May to run the Indianapolis Freedom 100."

Currently no details about the race team are being released, but an announcement is expected soon. Sponsorship opportunities are available for Münter's Indy Pro Series race car on the Indy 500 weekend in the Indianapolis Freedom 100. The race will air live on ESPN2. Interested parties in sponsorship of the Indy Pro car may contact Steve Kaminski at Marquis Sports Management (817-874-4699) for further details. Personal endorsements and media inquiries for Leilani Münter should contact Dan Levy at Wasserman Media Group (919-544-2150).

After Indianapolis, Münter plans to enter the five remaining oval track races in Indy Pro Series schedule including Milwaukee Mile on June 2, Iowa Speedway on June 23, Nashville Superspeedway on July 14, Kentucky Speedway on Aug 11, and Chicagoland on Sept 9.
