Carlin to enter F3 Euro Series in 2008

Championship winning British F3 team Carlin Motorsport will enter the Formula 3 Euro Series in 2008, it was announced today. The Hampshire based squad, who have taken the title in Britain on three occasions since 1999, will join the European championship for the first time when the season kicks off at Hockenheim in April next year. Following the team’s first full season of racing in 1999, Carlin have won 79 races in British F3, to become the most successful team in the history of the championship.

Famous names such as Narain Karthikeyan, Takuma Sato, Anthony Davidson and Jamie Green have all won scores of F3 races with the British team on their way to highest echelons of the sport.

Since 1999, Carlin have competed in F3, Porsche Supercup, World Series by Nissan, Formula BMW UK and World Series by Renault; all with race winning success. The move to F3 Euro Series will further strengthen the presence of the team in Europe, following a race-winning season in World Series by Renault in 2007. With a dedicated Research and Design department, together with a 3:1 wind tunnel at the team’s Chessington facility, the Carlin team are perfectly equipped to hone the F3 Dallara to find the smallest improvements which may give the edge on track.

Team Principal Trevor Carlin commented, “In the past few years F3 Euro Series has proved to be an immensely competitive championship and a great training ground for tomorrow’s stars. The team’s move into the European championship compliments our current race programs of British F3 and World Series and will further strengthen the team’s history of running the F1 drivers of the future.

“The Carlin team have enjoyed a great history in British F3, and this move into Europe will in no way weaken this. We have the resources and knowledge to be able to compete in both the European and British championships simultaneously and aim to be competitive from the first race. We are currently in discussions with several drivers and hope to announce our 2008 Euro Series line-up in the near future."
