Indy IPS race team signs woman driver
She’ll compete in the 2008 Indy Pro Series, the developmental circuit for the Indy Racing League, which features such stars as Marco Andretti, Helio Castroneves and Danica Patrick.
Allemann hopes to be the first woman to win an Indy-style race.
She has never been in a IPS car or experienced its horsepower — about 200 more than what powered her Formula 3 machine in 2007.
She’ll get her first chance to drive the car during a two-day test session at Sebring International Raceway Jan. 24-25.
She’s ready to race right now.
“My goal is to be the top in America," said Allemann, who grew up racing go-karts with her father and mother as the primary mechanics. “It’s difficult to know the level of the Americans. This is my first time in American, so I’m going to discover new things."
Her car-owner and Indy mentor, Cape Coral resident Jon Lewis, has never seen her race. He met her primary sponsor in Cape Coral last year, the two formed a relationship and he convinced that her skills would make his team successful.
“It’s intuition," Lewis said. “You can sense how a person is, how they handle themselves. From that standpoint, she is very professional. She is very focused and driven. She wants to learn and win."
