Without France family money, Brumos drops to 1 car

Without a healthy budget from the France family to get drunk driving drug addict J.C. France in a decent ride, Brumos announced they will drop to one car for 2010.

Brumos Racing did a bookend of the Grand-Am Rolex Series. The team won the season-opening Rolex 24 At Daytona then ended the year by winning the finale at Homestead-Miami Speedway.

Brumos is the only team that has entered a car in every Grand-Am race since the inception of the Daytona Prototypes in 2003, and plans to field a one-car team in 2010, but apparently assist another team with its DP effort.

Brumos team owner Dan Davis said: "In response to the current economic climate, we have chosen to focus on one car for 2010, and we are very pleased to have David Donohue and Darren Law as our full-time No. 59 car drivers."

Davis said J.C. France, who was arrested by Daytona Beach police and charged with speeding and drug possession last month, "will not be driving with us this season.''

"We support him as he works to return to the series," Davis added.

Davis talks of a new team being formed but offered few details in a season-ending team release, which reads:

"Joao Barbosa is one of the finest drivers in racing and we are pleased that he will be returning full-time to Grand-Am DP competition in 2010, joined by another Brumos veteran, Terry Borcheller. Details on this new team are still being finalized and will be announced in the near future. We are certainly looking forward to competing in 2010 and hope to kick off the season as repeat winners of the Rolex 24 At Daytona."

Hurley Haywood, who helped take the No. 58 Porsche Riley to victory at Homestead in place of France, will compete in the Brumos No. 59 entry at Daytona. Haywood, 61, said it would be his last attempt to win a sixth Rolex 24 title.

"I have spent the better part of my 40-plus year racing career behind the wheel of a Brumos No. 59 car, so it is only fitting that I drive our No. 59 Porsche Riley in what will be my last shot for my sixth career Rolex 24 win. Darren and David have proven their value to our team over the years, so you could say I am 'stacking the deck' in joining them to defend our Rolex 24 championship. With their level of skill and determination, we expect to win many races this season, and I hope the Rolex 24 will be the first of many."
