Star Mazda Series may be terminal?
12/04/12
Gary Rodrigues put out this letter to Star Mazda Championship teams, drivers, sponsors and partners today.
Re: Series Announcement
Dear Friends,
After 22 years of growth and a proud record of helping young motor racing talent build careers in the racing industry, we regret to advise you the Star Mazda Championship will not continue into the 2013 racing season under its present ownership.
It has unfortunately not been possible to secure sufficient support to keep the current program going. The assets of the Series are being offered to qualified buyers at market price, in the hope that a company or group will be able to marshal the resources to continue this groundbreaking program for many years to come.
Star especially wishes to acknowledge our primary partners, INDYCAR, Mazda, and Goodyear, over the many years of our associations for their continual technical and financial contributions. We hope by advising you at this relatively early date everyone involved can make the most of what is for us a disappointing development.
INDYCAR and Mazda have expressed their desire to see the program continue undiminished. The 2013 Star Championship schedule was within days of release when we had to reach this difficult decision. We feel confident that the Series will continue under new ownership and, hopefully, achieve its excellent potential. It is our intent to do what we can to make the transition as expeditious and seamless as possible. Further announcements are expected soon from the new Series administration. Please give them a little time to start the flow of information.
Sincerely,
Gary Rodrigues, President
