Barrichello wins Stock Car Brazil Championship
Rubens Barrichello |
Former IndyCar driver and 11-time Formula One Grand Prix winner Ruben Barrichello clinched the 2014 Stock Car Brazil championship with a third-place finish at Curitiba. It was the 42-year-old Sao Paulo native's first racing championship since Barrichello won the 1991 British Formula 3 championship.
Driving the #111 Full Time Sports Chevrolet Sonic, Barrichello earned wins earlier this season at Goiania and Cascavel, and scored three second-place finishes, in addition to the third-place today. And after competing overseas for years, Barrichello noted that the championship was special because it occurred in front of the Brazilian public.
"Only now, Brazil starts to know me," Barrichello told Autosport. "And I am loving being in my country, in front of such an emotional public."
