Villeneuve to return to Brazilian Stock Cars at Goiania
Jacques Villenueve |
Jacques Villeneuve will compete with Shell Racing in the Brazilian Stock race at Goiania on the weekend of 21-22 March. Villeneuve will drive alongside his old Formula 1 teammate Ricardo Zonta in a two car team.
The 1997 Formula 1 World Champion will be on the grid for the opening race of the stock car season on 22 March in Goiania. The Canadian will make his second appearance in the Brazilian category, once again with the Shell Racing team with teammate Ricardo Zonta in the number 10 car.
Villeneuve and Zonta have been teammates in F1 (at British American Racing). This, however, will be the first time the two will share the same car. For the Canadian, Stock Car is not new: he tested in 2011, with a participation in the Million Race, the debut of Racing Shell in the series.
"It's great to run again in such a professional category as these Stock Cars as well as sharing the car with a driver like Ricardo, who was my teammate in F1. Running in Brazil is very special, you can feel the energy of the fans and the passion that everyone has for motorsport, "says Villeneuve.
Zonta says that the Goiania race will already be a memorable race in your career even before you start the race. "It will be my debut Shell Racing and it will be my first race driving alongside Jacques, whose experience we all know and that brings even more attention to this double header. This will be a defining moment for my career and I sure we can fight for a good result, "said Zonta.
Team boss of Shell Racing, Rodolpho Mattheis, highlighted the strength of the two car team for the Goiania race: "We will have four very high international level drivers, including an F1 World Champion and our responsibility is to build a strategy for everyone so they are competitive from the first practice. This was the path that got us the podium in 2014 and I'm sure we can fight for another great result."
The Brazilian Stock Car race at Goiania will take place on 22 March marking the opening of the 2015 championship.
