Carneiro wins 2015 NASA PRO RACING UTAH REGION Championship

Bruno Carneiro

You probably remember AR1 columnist Brian Carroccio's feature on 16-year-old racing sensation Bruno Carneiro back in August. The Brazilian-born Utah resident has already gained recognition in the Salt Lake City area for his efforts on track and the unique way in which he funds his racing efforts: Rodizio Grill certificates door-to-door in the Salt Lake City area.

This season, Carneiro made the switch from karting to cars and adapted rather quickly, scoring 10 wins and 4 Second places in 14 races in the #21 Ian Lacy/Rodizio Grill machine. And last Saturday, Carneiro clinched the 2015 NASA PRO RACING UTAH REGION Championship in the Formula class this past Saturday.

"As I was on my cool down lap, I remembered that almost a year to the day, I did my first tests with a Formula Mazda," said Carneiro. "And on my way to the pits last year, I was waving at the track marshals and rehearsing a celebration of what I would do a year later after winning the Championship."

Carneiro credited the help of many people such as Ian Lacy, Alan and Desire Wilson, Kyle D Hall, Fernando Coser, Jorge and Juan Herrera, Ivan Utrera, Troy Duffin, Steven Costello, Steve Burns, Terry Biner, Dave Kazerian, Matt Giver, Cherri Miller, Mike Mallinen, Guy Ruse, James Burke, David Hikes, Davidi Askew, Laura Dean for their various roles and support in making his championship possible. He also made mention of the people involved in the Formula Car class and all the folks and drivers at the NASA Utah Region Community, and the many folks at Miller Motorsports Park who make his racing efforts possible.

In the coming years, Carneiro hopes to climb the North American racing formula racing ladder via the Mazda Road to Indy and fulfill his dream of competing in the Indianapolis 500.
