Organizers of the Formula V8 3.5 series have announced that the category has replaced its planned round at Fuji Speedway with a visit to the Circuit of the Americas next season.

The category has suffered a dip in numbers since the exit of long-term backers Renault at the end of 2015 but next year will act as a support category to the World Endurance Championship.

Formula V8 3.5 is set to race alongside WEC at Silverstone, Spa and the Nurburgring, and it initially announced three overseas trips to Bahrain, Mexico City and Fuji.

However, for cost purposes, the Fuji round has been dropped in favor of joining WEC at the Circuit of the Americas.

It means that Formula V8 3.5 will be present as a support act at six of the nine WEC events next season.
