Cancelled Boston GP IndyCar race to move to Providence RI?

UPDATE

If Mark Miles read AR1.com more often he would have known back in Sept. the Boston race wasn't going to happen.

"We’re very disappointed," IndyCar CEO Miles told the Indianapolis Star.

Miles said IndyCar needed "a little time to sort this out." He confirmed the staff has been working on backup plans in the event this effort dissolved.

One of the cities that could play host could be Providence, R.I., which IndyCar considered before putting its focus on Boston. AR1.com says there is no way a race in Providence could be ready in time.

"We have a couple of ideas," Miles said. "We’re working hard to see if there’s a Plan B." IndyCar has egg on its face yet again.

The following is a statement from INDYCAR:

INDYCAR was made aware of the news involving the Grand Prix of Boston this evening. We are obviously disappointed with these media reports and are in the process of gathering additional details and will respond accordingly at the appropriate time. At this stage it is premature for INDYCAR to comment further on the situation locally in Boston or the prospect of an alternate event.

Rumor has it that the Boston GP will try to resurrect the cancelled Boston GP IndyCar race in Providence RI. That is where Mark Perrone's group was originally trying to do a race before his team moved their efforts to Boston.

However, it is very late in the game to pull off such a move and we doubt a temporary circuit can get the approvals it would need in time.

A much better alternative would be for IndyCar to move the race to the IIe of Notre Dame in Montreal on the F1 circuit (right), where CART held two races before Tony George took his hammer to the sport.
