Penske to add 2nd IndyCar team with NASCAR’s Hendricks

Spotted on the grid of the Centennial Indy 500 were Hendrick Motorsport decals on the wings of two Team Penske Racers. The decals were on the inside rear wing plate on Will Power's #12 and #6 Ryan Briscoe. This leads to speculation of an alliance of Penske and Hendrick in IndyCar especially due to the entry of Chevrolet engines into the open wheel series in 2012. Penske officials are keen to add Simona de Silvestro to their team but are having financial issues with three cars and would not comment on the why HMS decals were on the two cars. An alliance with Hendrick, a big Chevrolet dealer, could see a 2nd 2-car Penske/Hendricks team created much like Ganassi Racing has created a 2nd team for Graham Rahal and Charlie Kimball. It gives them the advantage of trying more aero packages to see what works best. One has to also wonder if Penske will switch from Dodge to Chevy in NASCAR. (see image at Auto123)
