Newman renews with Stewart?

UPDATE This rumor is upgraded to 'fact' today. Ryan Newman and boss Tony Stewart have been saying for months they've been working on a deal for 2013. And now it's done. Newman has agreed to a one-year deal to remain with the team, a Stewart-Haas Racing spokesman confirmed Thursday.

09/05/12 Ryan Newman and boss Tony Stewart have been saying for months they've been working on a deal for 2013. And now it's apparently done.

Newman has agreed to a one-year deal to remain with the team, The Charlotte Observer reported Wednesday night, citing sources.

Newman moved from Penske Racing to Stewart-Haas Racing after the 2008 season. He has made the Chase for the Sprint Cup in two of the three previous seasons but is a long shot to make it this year.

"My goal is to stay at Stewart-Haas and keep doing what we're doing, and we're working on that," Newman said Aug. 4.

SHR, which is committed to a car for Danica Patrick with sponsorship by Go Daddy in 2013, is losing the U.S. Army as a 12-race sponsor for Newman after this season. Last week it lost Office Depot as a 22-race sponsor for Stewart.

But the team apparently has not backed away from its goal to have three Cup cars next year. Newman has had sponsorship from Quicken Loans, Tornados and Wix this season.
