Goodyear Tire Testing at Indy (Update)

UPDATE This rumor is upgraded to 'fact' today. A half-dozen Sprint Cup Series drivers are testing this week at IMS. Jeff Gordon, two-time Brickyard winner Tony Stewart, a Columbus, Ind., native and resident, along with Mark Martin, reigning Sprint Cup champion Brad Keselowski, Kurt Busch and Trevor Bayne.

Gordon said he was impressed with the grip level generated by the series’ first-year car, known as the Gen-6 design. He couldn’t believe it when Hendrick Motorsports officials told him his Chevrolet topped out at 214 mph in the cooler part of the morning.

“I didn’t realize we were going that fast," he said.

Lap times weren’t released, but Gordon said all the cars were faster than Denny Hamlin’s pole speed of a year ago (182.763 mph).
