Rain to be an issue at Bristol Sunday (Update)
Bristol Motor Speedway general manager Jerry Caldwell said, "By now, nearly everyone has seen Sunday's weather forecast and expressed questions regarding plans. NASCAR has a nearly 70-year history of working with tracks to get races in on the scheduled date. In Bristol Motor Speedway, we have a track that dries in less than an hour, equipment here to do it, and lights that allow us to go well into the evening. We are very hopeful and fully intend to run the Food City 500 tomorrow. If by chance that does not happen, we are prepared to race Monday at noon. But that is a backup plan we hope to not need."
03/15/14 While Saturday's weather at Bristol Motor Speedway looks good with only a slight change of rain and a high of 64, Sunday NASCAR may not be so lucky. The National Weather Service forecast for Sunday calls for a 100% chance of rain after 9:00am with a high of 53 degrees. Sunday night the chance of precipitation only drops to 90%. Monday's forecast is for a 60% chance of rain with a high of only 45 degrees. Bristol has lights and Air Titan would help dry the short track even faster than usual, so NASCAR is likely to wait as long as they can Sunday to get the race in, if possible.
