Cytomax to sponsor San Jose T/A race
Cytomax, a brand of ChampBev, Inc., is also sponsoring this year's race at Denver, which follows the San Jose round, and also backed this year's season opener at Long Beach. The Benicia, Calif.-based company is owned by 1978 Trans-Am Drivers' Champion Greg Pickett, who is scheduled to compete in the Cytomax Sport Drink 100 in the No. 6 Cytomax/Muscle Milk Jaguar XKR.
"I've been around Trans-Am racing for a long time, and we thought it was time to give back to the sport we've enjoyed for so many years," said Pickett. "We made a strategic decision last year to use Trans-Am at Denver to help launch our Cytomax Ready to Drink. That decision exceeded our expectations and we think our continued involvement with Trans-Am will yield similar results. The Bay Area is a key market, as well as being our home base, so the added visibility and excitement that is part of the Trans-Am Series here will certainly benefit Cytomax Sport Drink."
"We are pleased that Cytomax has agreed to continue its support of the Trans-Am Series by sponsoring our San Jose race," said Trans-Am Series Executive Director John Clagett. "Greg is a longtime and well-liked Trans-Am Series competitor, who has seen success both on and off the track. We're excited about Greg's ongoing success with Cytomax and we're pleased to contribute to that success at San Jose. This agreement represents a win-win for both Cytomax and the Trans-Am Series."
The Cytomax Sport Drink 100, part of the Taylor Woodrow Grand Prix of San Jose weekend, is scheduled for Saturday, July 30. The race will start at 4 p.m. PDT and will air on SPEED on Aug. 7 at 1 p.m. EDT.
