Nextel’s bond with NASCAR strong

It’s been two years since it was announced that telecommunication companies Sprint and Nextel would merge.

It’s been about that long that rumors have persisted that the merger would scuttle the relationship of the company with NASCAR.

In a recent chat with The Star, Sprint Nextel Corp. chairman, resident and chief executive officer Gary Forsee firmly waved off those rumors.

Forsee said that over the last two years, his company’s title sponsorship of NASCAR’s premier series warrants strengthening, not weakening. He said that the NASCAR-Sprint Nextel relationship has become a prime component of his company’s business plan.

“It’s been incredible to watch, first, the whole NASCAR experience unfold," Forsee said. “But, most importantly, what Nextel had done with the branding and the sponsorship opportunity."

“I’ve been around a while and I had never seen anything like that taken to this level in terms of a sponsorship, conveyance of the brand, the technology that’s gone on for customers and fans of NASCAR and how that conveys back into the company. It’s dramatically overexceeded my expectations." More at Kansas City Star
