Mercedes debuts Luxury 4-door Convertible Concept

Mercedes-Benz unveiled a super-elegant 4-door convertible concept car today at the 2007 North American International Auto Show; and the carmaker said the Concept Ocean Drive could become reality if demand becomes evident.

The concept derives from the 12-cylinder Mercedes-Benz S600 because of the S’s long wheelbase. It features a shoulder-level heating system that allows occupants at all four seating positions to ride in comfort with the top down even in winter months.

The Concept Ocean Drive has a snub nose and elegant grille, and a tapered rear with a heavy boot that covers the convertible soft top. The interior is awash in luxury appointments. This design exercise allowed stylists nearly limitless opportunity to create a 4-door luxury convertible that recalls aristocratic autos of days gone by.

Mercedes-Benz also displayed its S550 4Matic and E350 4Matic all-wheel-drive sedans as well as a GL420 Bluetec, a diesel-powered full-size SUV, a ML320 CDI 4Matic midsize SUV, and the R350 4Matic crossover.
