Indy 500 finish voted most memorable
The thrilling, final-straightaway pass for victory by Sam Hornish Jr. in the 2006 Indianapolis 500 was a finish for the ages, and readers of popular motorsports Web site speedtv.com agree.
Speedtv.com readers voted Hornish's victory by 0.0635 of a second over rookie Marco Andretti – the second-closest finish ever in "The Greatest Spectacle in Racing" – as the most memorable motorsports moment of 2006 in a poll conducted at the Speed Web site.
Hornish's victory earned 39.8 percent of the more than 6,000 votes cast. It beat the runner-up, Michael Schumacher's dramatic engine failure in the Japanese Grand Prix, by more than 1,000 votes.
