Ranger not sure which league he will race in

According to AutoRacing1.com sources, Canadian Andrew Ranger does not know where he will race in 2007. Despite raising over $1M in sponsorship, Champ Car teams are telling him that's not enough. While his priority remains Champ Car, the danger of waiting too long and losing the sponsors is too great a risk to take, which in turn has forced Ranger to contact IRL and NASCAR Busch teams who have expressed an interest in the French Canadian youngster AutoRacing1.com has learned. Rumor has it that the asking price by some teams is $2M, $3M and even $4M for a full season. We hear that a number of Champ Car drivers are facing this same dilemma.

Ultimately the model must change. Champ Car teams cannot continue forever relying on drivers to bring a large chunk of their annual budget. The series must position itself and the teams must improve their marketing departments such that they can land sponsorship on their own and drivers get paid to drive rather than paying to drive. This is a sport, not a rent-a-ride program. Imagine Derek Jeter paying to play for the NY Yankees. Would never happen.
