Peterhansel extends lead in Dakar

Frenchman Stephane Peterhansel extended his overall lead in the Dakar Rally despite finishing fourth on the 10th stage around Nema on Tuesday. Qatari Nasser Saleh Al Attiyah, driving a BMW, won the section ahead of Japan's Hiroshi Masuoka and USA's Mark Miller.

Peterhansel's closest challenger, Luc Alphand, was seventh, with third-placed Jean-Louis Schlesser out of the top 10.

Portugal's Helder Rodrigues won the bike section ahead of overall leader Marc Coma of Spain and Cyril Despres.

The stage win was Rodrigues' second of the race, following his victory in his home country on stage two.

However, Coma's second-place finish extended his overall lead from France's Despres to 54 minutes, 43 seconds.
