Victory (again) for Peterhansel

41-year-old Frenchman Stephane Peterhansel cruised to victory in the Dakar Rally on Sunday. He beat his Mitsubishi teammate Luc Alphand by 7m:26s. This race was a tortoise and hare fairytale as neither Mitsubishi driver won even a single stage yet they were 1-2 overall at the finish.

The final stage was won by Volkswagen driver Giniel de Villiers, who was two seconds faster than his teammate Carlos Sainz. Although VW won 10 stages they lost the race due to mechanical issues.

Peterhansel's victory was his third in the last four years in the car section and his ninth overall, as he has also taken six wins in the bike category. More to follow….
