GM January China sales tops 100,000 mark

General Motors Corp said it sold 101,926 vehicles in mainland China in January, topping the 100,000-unit mark for the first time in a single month. In a statement, GM said Shanghai GM, its joint venture with Shanghai Automotive Industry Corp, maintained its lead position among domestic passenger car manufacturers with 40,570 vehicle sales in January. GM’s commercial vehicle venture, SAIC-GM-Wuling, sold 61,200 vehicles last month, the statement said. Last year, GM and its mainland China operations sold 876,747 vehicles, an increase of 31.8 pct from 2005.
